"FIGURE IT OUT"
Figure
It Out jFERRARI Gallery, one of the hottest
newer art galleries in the L.A. art scene, brings together no less than 20
exceptional artists' work for a fascinating exhibit which examines the
tradition of figurative painting and its relationship with contemporary
abstract painting. A figure is, by definition, a human form, or it can be a
numerical symbol or a graphic representation of a form. FIGURE IT OUT
portrays the human form realistically, symbolically and as a representation
of an emotion or feeling. This exhibit encompasses many art movements and
art media with which to illustrate the human figure, making it a diverse
collection suited to all art enthusiasts.
Each unique piece depicts the human figure, whether in an exquisite Polaroid
emulsion transfer (Susan Berkowitz) or a painting that embodies escapism and
fantasy (Alyse Livingston), and stretches these parameters to include
alluring contemporary art (Fred Chuang, Cristian Vega-Rojo) along with
surrealism/cubism (Eduardo Bonilla) and erotica (Dani Katz, Eban Lehrer).
An eclectic mix of art work portraying the human form, FIGURE IT OUT has a
piece that appeals to everyone, be it Spanish influenced (Juliana Martinez),
or traditional (Christine Curry, Timothy Duong, Vanessa Prager, Robin
Russin). Abstract figures (David Haig Alexander, Jazmin Ferrari, Ani Kia,
Sophia Louisa Lee) and glass work (Holly Louis) add dimension and insight to
the contemporary collection of figurative art and figurines. This is a
diverse collection of age-old subject matter seamlessly transformed into
contemporary works by infusing them with fresh ideas and ingenious
approaches to traditional figurative art.
Other artists' work featured at this inspiring exhibit includes Dave Matke's
use of symbolism in naïve compositions, Cris Orfescu's nanoart, the
spiritual expressionism of Natalie Egnatchik, sculpture by Lee Jordan and
the detailed acrylic paintings of Sangeeta Levy.
FIGURE IT OUT pays homage to the human figure by utilizing vibrant ideas and
the unconventional approach of some of L.A.'s most talented artists, who
have indeed FIGURED IT OUT.
